That Thing You Do: Day 5

Isaiah 55:1-13 The Invitation

"Come to the waters you who thirst...."

This is one of my most favorite chapters in the Bible. I'm in one of those moments where there's so much i want to say yet nothing comes out at all. Haha Anyway..

The invitation in this passage is extended to everyone. The call is from God Himself. Not only does He offer water, the basic necessity of life, but He also offers all that brings overwhelming satisfaction or abundance to life.

To listen carries the idea of obedience. If we respond to Him in obedience, we will experience the good life. Not the "feel good" life but the good life.

"I don't think the way you think. The way you work isn't the way I work." (theMessage translation)

Just this morning, I got news that saddened me deeply. Even as i type this right now, I'm almost to tears. I ask God why, of all the people, He places me in a situation as complicated as this one. And God leads me to this passage..

"My thoughts are higher than your thoughts...."

Wow. He has a plan. We may not know why certain things happen, why we go through the most difficult trials or why we don't always get things our way.. but we can be sure of this.. That the God who made the universe and everything in it, is thinking of you and has a GREATER plan for you than you have for yourself. No room for doubting. No room for complaining. No room for failure. God's in charge. I may not be sure of what's ahead but HE IS... and His plans are always good :)

"So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They'll do the work I sent them to do, they'll complete the assignment I gave them."

GOD'S WORD NEVER FAILS TO ACCOMPLISH HIS PURPOSE. The Hebrews viewed the spoken word as having a power of its own once it left the mouth of the speaker. Like the arrow shot from the bow, the spoken word could not be recalled.

Though things may seem difficult and painful right now, I have the peace that God is in control and that in time, I'll understand why I had to go through what i'm going through right now. At the end of it all, it isn't about me "surviving" but God being faithful always.

He remains faithful to His Word. His word restores life to His people as surely as the rain coming down from the heavens brings new life to the earth.

And for that.... we have nothing to worry about.
