That thing you do: Day 4

Joshua 1:1-17

This story is about God's commission to Joshua. But as i was reading it, i felt as if it was God's commission to me. What amazed me even more was the fact that He isn't commanding us to do these things because it will benefit Him but because it will benefit us! I guess that's just how much He loves us!

"These commandments shall never depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night..... for then will you have good success."

The command to study and meditate God's Law includes incorporating its teachings into our lifestyles as the basis of true success in life. I remember my daddy John always being proud of me when I finish well in school but never as proud of me when i study the Bible. I'd hear Him commend me as he smiles at my grades but nothing would light his face up more than sharing him what i've learned from my devotion that day. Growing up like that, i've learned that our accomplishments will never measure up to what He has accomplished for us. The Lord has commanded to meditate His Word, not for His own good but for ours.

"Be strong and of a good courage; don't be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Just like us, Joshua was tasked to do something so big, i bet he got scared too. And just like Joshua, we'd often hear that still small voice of God telling us to do this or do that, to stop this to stop that, to let go of this and hold on to that and most of the time, well, we delay because of fear. Sometimes we even ignore what we know is right and avoid God as much as we can so we won't have to do what He's trying to tell us to do. That's the sign for being weak and being full of fear.

My closest friends would know that i get afraid and worried easily. I overanalyze and over-think a lot of times which just leads me to paranoia which then leads me to being stuck in a corner, listening to sad sad songs and just being emo. Thus, not being productive at all. Not obeying God in any way... at all.

We tend to do this. We tend to escape and forget cause we always want it OUR way. Cause OUR way is not necessarily right but then it feels better. Cause our way doesn't involve stepping out of our comfort zone. Cause our way doesn't involve using the "faith" we claim to have. Cause our way doesn't feel so nice and satisfying. And then we come to a point where we realize we're wrong and that none of our plans worked. Then we come to a point where we realize that God's been waiting for us to just obey.

So whatever you feel the Lord's telling you now, may it be to do something or to quit something.. to forgive someone or to ask forgiveness to someone.. To have faith in Him or to just trust Him.. Whatever it is you feel the Lord's telling you right now, what're you waiting for? :)

He does say this...

"...I will not leave you nor forsake you...."

And the Lord's ways are true. Everything He says is true. If He says He won't leave you, He never wil ;)

SO JUST OBEY.
