Matthew 6:5-15 PRAYER
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, shut the
door and talk to God.."
Our generation today
has grown to be a people of ritual. We pray because we think we need to. And
most of the time, our prayers aren't even from the heart. We say memorized
prayer so casually, we don't even know what we're saying most of the
time.
I believe that prayer has no rules. You don’t have to go to
a certain place to do it, ask a certain priest to pray for you (cause you can do it
on your own), or ask a certain Saint to let your prayers reach God. No… I
believe that at any time of any day, we can talk to God… directly. Christ’s
sacrifice on the cross has given us full access to God.
Of course, that doesn’t mean kneeling down in the middle of a
jeepney while stuck in traffic on Edsa (though you’re most welcome to haha).
What I’m trying to say is, we can talk to God… always. Wherever we are... whoever we are. Whatever we've done.
God knows everything. There’s no need whatsoever to
sugarcoat your words or repeat stuff over and over just so you can say you had
a long prayer. He knows everything.
He knows what you feel. No need to lie. No need to hide things. Rant! Say
exactly what you feel! He knows it anyway. And the best part about it…. HE
UNDERSTANDS.
When I was in the states, I had a good two weeks of being home alone. My parents were at
work while my siblings were at school. So I pretty much couldn’t do anything. Our
house in Vegas is about 30mins away from the city so you can tell it’s in a
pretty secluded area. But while in my moments of exile, God caught my attention. I learned so
much. You see, it’s at times like those where God shows you He’s there. No
matter how far away you are from everyone and everything else, you’re still not
alone. He’s still there to listen.
Any relationship needs communication. When you like someone, you spend time
to know that person. You talk. You listen. It’s the same way with God… to be
closer to Him, we need to talk to Him! Talking by praying and listening by
reading His Word.
You know the greatest thing about prayer though? God actually
WANTS to hear us out. He doesn’t have to but HE WANTS TO. He loves listening to us. Loves seeing
us run to Him. And He loves coming to our rescue :)
Need someone to talk to?
Talk to God.
