That thing you do: Day 13

Ephesians 4:1-16 "Being MATURE"

"I don't want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline- not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences." (v2)

In all honesty, as I write this right now, I'm guilty of not being true to my word when I said I'd post at 10am everyday. That's still true though for the past few days, I had asked two of my friends to share their own stories and revelations to us. But still... i know... even before that, i would actually post late. I've committed to doing this and there's no excuse for me not to be on time. I'm sorry :(

So reading this passage, I was reminded how often we settle for "bahala na", "pwede na yan", "okay lang yans" a lot. We often do things just for the sake of finishing it so we can move on to "more important things" (well....in our own terms). We need to be disciplined. To be at our best, we need to be humble. We usually "settle" cause we're too caught up with our own interests than with our priorities. Not until things get wrong do these priorities grab our attention... and we don't want things to come crashing and falling, don't we? In fact, we want to prevent those things from happening.

We need to be wise. We need to be more mature in making decisions. YOLO (You Only Live Once) is the life motto of so many youths today. Most of them, making it an excuse to do what they know isn't so right. I would often hear people say, "I won't be like this forever..." so, until when? Why not start living right right now? None of us are promised tomorrow. We are expected to be wise NOW. To live right NOW. Cause if not NOW... when?

"God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love-- like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is source of everything we do" (v. 14)

God doesn't want us to choose to crawl like babies forever. He wants us to walk. He expects us to run. And to be able to do so, we need to KNOW the WHOLE TRUTH.. we need to know HIS word. Through knowing His Word, we get to know HIM. And by knowing Him, who is Creator of all things including you and me, we will know who we are, what to do and where to go.

Lastly, as we live our lives according to His will, He wants us to tell it in love. Have you ever admired something so badly you just couldn't keep it to yourself? God is hoping we can tell the world about Him too. His unconditional, never-ending love for us that we don't deserve deserves to be known over all the earth.

We have to make a decision NOW. Who to be, what to do, where to go?

ASK GOD.
KNOW GOD.
FOLLOW GOD.

Time to grow up ;)

  1. We have to make a decision NOW. Who to be, what to do, where to go?

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. ... Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God."- Mere Christianity
