2 Timothy 3:10-17 The Man of God & the Word of God
Have you ever had the experience of reading a portion in the Bible-- perhaps even several pages or chapters even-- only to stop and realize that you have absolutely no idea what you just read? That has happened to me even more times than i care to admit. Haha
But please do keep this in mind... that it isn't enough that we just read the Word. The goal is that the words printed on these pages become indelibly written on our hearts.
God's intention was never just to get us into the Word but the Word into us!
"Manner of life. Purpose. Faith. Longsuffering. Love. Pain. Perseverance. Addictions. Persecutions. Afflictions........ "and out of them all the Lord delivered me."
Paul wrote this book to strengthen Timothy's loyalty to Christ. He reminds Timothy to "continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of....". We may be busy with work or school.. We may be haunted by our pasts or things we're plainly guilty of.. We may be distracted by things that won't even last.. To make it all simpler, we may all have our own share of dramas BUT not one of these reasons should stop us from "continuing..." in our walk with Christ.
As part of being human, God had never expected us to be perfect. To be sinLESS. To be flawless. But He does desire for us to be DEVOTED.
"Devotion is continuing and persisting in doing something with passion and intensity despite the difficulty."
SCRIPTURE WAS GOD-BREATHED. No room for doubts.
** God communicates to us specific truths. This written word is both infallible and because it is God's Word, authoritative. God's Word isn't only inspired; it's also "profitable". Its usefulness is seen in four areas: teaching HIS truth, reproving or rebuking those who are in sin, correcting those who are in error and training people to walk in God's righteous ways.
We all know that any relationship between two people would not survive if one's just a listener and the other just a talker. It has to be balanced. It's the same way with our relationship with Christ. We can't just keep talking, ranting, complaining, asking, then leaving when we get what we want or when we simply just get tired of waiting... I believe that in any relationship, especially our relationship with Christ, it's very important that we also learn to listen. And we can listen by reading His Word.
This is how it's gonna work. So enough with the "it's not You, it's me...." cheesy lines we throw at God "sometimes". ME is going to listen now. We're gonna make this work because we're choosing to be DEVOTED to HIM ;)
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God...."
